Back to Costa Rica

No, we’re not going back to Costa Rica, not just yet, though some day we will. It’s just that it’s been nearly a month since we left for our trip to Costa Rica and I’m finally getting back to writing about it.

Buck and I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica about three weeks ago for a ten day trip. It wasn’t much of an extravagance: all of the airfare was covered by our frequent flyer miles, and the lodging and food in Costa Rica is much less expensive than in the U.S.

When we arrived in San Jose, we were picked up by a shuttle and taken to a car rental agency, where we got into the SUV we’d rented. From there it was a relatively short drive to the small town of Angeles Sur, north of San Ramone in the canton of Alajuela. We’d also rented a GPS device, which worked great, except I first had been told that the town was Los Angeles Sur, but the nice GPS lady insists that it’s really Angeles Sur, sans Los. We arrived at our destination after perhaps an hour’s drive from San Jose: Angel Valley Farm Bed and Breakfast. » Read the rest of this entry »

The weekend of my 50th birthday

A couple of weeks ago, I had my 50th birthday. My parents came to help mark the occasion, and Buck and I took them on several outings, since they arrived a couple of days before my birthday. Probably the most memorable was our afternoon at the National Arboretum, where the azaleas were beginning to bloom on the Glenn Dale Azalea Hillside.

Quicky

We’ve been too busy to blog since we’ve been home. :( I’ll write a lot more about Costa Rica soon, but I wanted to say “Thanks” to Terry for his hospitality at Angel Valley Farm B&B, and a brief hello and “Pura Vida” to the many wonderful people we met in Costa Rica, especially Carlos from the capital city of San Jose. Here are a few pics of Costa Rica:

We’re back!

In case you noticed we were gone, well, we’re back! We’ve been in Costa Rica for ten days and arrived home a couple of hours ago. We’ll be posting our trip reports and pics in the coming days. Also, my 50th birthday is Sunday, and I’ll tell you how it feels to hit the big Five-Oh from a Mike Kessler point of view when the day arrives.
